Amy Swonger served more than a decade in the federal government where she held positions in the House of Representatives, Senate and Bush Administration. Prior to joining Heather Podesta + Partners, she spent eight years as a government affairs consultant providing corporate and trade association clients with strategic guidance on legislative matters pending before Congress and the Administration in the areas of tax, financial services, health care, and energy.
Swonger began her government career working in the House of Representatives handling health, transportation and veterans’ issues. She later worked in the Senate leadership offices of then Republican Whip Mitch McConnell (R-KY), and then Republican Leader and Whip Trent Lott (R-MS). During her time with Senator McConnell, she served as his floor assistant coordinating Senate floor strategy. As a Legislative Assistant for Senator Lott, she handled tax, budget, health, and trade issues. In Lott’s Whip Office, she coordinated the vote counting process for top legislative priorities. In between Senate positions, Swonger served for three years as Deputy Assistant to Vice President Dick Cheney for Legislative Affairs advocating the President’s policies before Congress.
