Mary Beth Stanton leads HP+P's financial services practice, advising non-profits, global corporations, and associations on the intersection of politics, policy, business, and finance. Stanton counsels clients on the implications of market-changing events and offers analysis of the impacts of financial regulatory reform proposals. Stanton also offers political and legislative analysis to hedge funds, private equity firms, and other financial services industry participants on key developments and emerging trends in a number of industry sectors, including energy, health care, and banking.
Prior to joining HP+P, Stanton was a Managing Director for Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLC where she represented a variety of clients on issues including pandemic flu policy, mortgage bankruptcy legislation, disability policy, and health care reform. In that vein, Stanton worked to increase pandemic preparedness funding, helped to amend mortgage bankruptcy legislation in the House, drafted coverage legislation for health plans subject to ERISA, and broadened Medicare provider status to include Speech Language Pathologists.
Stanton has over seven years of Capitol Hill experience, most recently as Policy Advisor for the Senate Special Committee on Aging and as Legislative Assistant for Chairman Heb Kohl (D-WI). Her work on both the Committee and the Senator’s personal staff provided Stanton with expertise in an array of policy areas, including Medicare, Medicaid, and prescription drug issues for seniors, as well as education and health appropriations. Senator Kohl is also a member of the Appropriation Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education.
Previously, Stanton served as Legislative Assistant for Representative Anthony Wiener (D-NY), where she focused on Rep. Weiner’s Transportation and Infrastructure Committee assignment, including the 2004-2005 transportation reauthorization bills.
